Pecking Order

New Zealand, 2017 / 78 Mins

Director: Slavko Martinov

Starring: Doug Bain, Sarah Bunton, Bob Dawber

Join members of the 148-year-old Christchurch Poultry, Bantam and Pigeon Club in the lead up to the NZ National Show, as they battle history (and each other) in their quest for glory. Audiences will be introduced to an endearing and eclectic group of ‘chick fanciers’, each hoping to take away the top prize.

Preceding the main feature, and brought to you by Random Acts Presents, we are pleased to be showing the short film Really Modern Times. Directed by Violet Adams, this is a comical portrait on the disgusting (but very normal) parts of being a young woman, contradicting and satirizing expectations of female purity and softness.

Random Acts Presents is a joint initiative between Arts Council England, Channel 4 Random Acts and five National Network Centres (Tyneside Cinema, ICA, Calling the Shots, Rural Media and Screen South) working together to commission young artists and filmmakers to make short films. The project nurtures talent by providing mentorship and continuing professional development to all its artists and filmmakers.

No.6 is taking a brief intermission - re-opening scheduled for May 9th is 6.30

Loyal regulars will be aware that we have had a few technical issues with some of our screenings recently. We have been working to resolve these, and have been pleased that our most recent showings, including lengthy films like Dune: Part 2 and Apocalypse Now, have worked okay. But we feel it’s unfair on you to be crossing our fingers and hoping, we’d rather get things sorted properly.

The plan is to close for the next two weeks and hopefully return on Thursday 9th May. Keep an eye on the No.6 website and newsletter for confirmation or otherwise, and of course to find out what we will be showing when we do return. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding.
